letter to our little one

Dear little one,

Today is the day! You’re due day.

But, like your mom who regularly asked for extensions on her homework in college, and your dad who canNOT leave the house on time (or without leaving behind keys or wallet) - I didn’t really expect you to show up on your due date anyways. It’s just not in your DNA…

Although I’m sure you’re enjoying your warm belly-home, I’m sure it’s getting a little cramped in there, right?

We have a nice white bassinet ready for you sitting under the window to our garden. You can stretch your arms and kick your legs and look up as the clouds go by.

If that’s not enough, we have soft blankies, cuddly stuffed animals, fun books, and knit hats and sweaters ready for you to enjoy! Oh and did we mention we have a puppy! You won’t even need to ask for one - we got you covered baby boy!

You have tons of family coming into town - your grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles will all be around in the next few weeks ready to hug and kiss and love on you. You better get ready to be play “musical relative!”

But, I haven’t even told you the most important reason you need to hurry up and get here! YOUR PARENTS!

Your dad and I are already madly in love with you. We talk to you constantly - can you hear our voices? We touch your little feet as you kick my belly - can you feel our hands? We are impatiently eager to meet you, son.

Little one… you’ve already changed our lives. Dad and I are working so hard to make our home safe and happy for you. We have long conversations about the type of parents we want to be and the values we want to teach. I already bought a few books on early childhood education. Dad started a family journal so we can document our lives with you.

Maybe you’re showing up tomorrow, maybe in a week. Just know, we are SO ready to hold you and care for you.

Wishing you a safe journey into our arms.
